YAG Laser
There are different types of lasers used in ophthalmology. The YAG laser is a laser-based on photodisrupting tissues. The high power of this laser can ionize tiny dots of tissue to break their atoms and turn it into plasma (releases a lot of energy in a short time without damaging the surrounding tissue) for which this type of laser is carefully focused on the structure which wants to be drilled. It is especially useful to pierce the capsule of the lens when it becomes cloudy after cataract surgery resulting in secondary cataract, or perforate the iris to cure and prevent angle-closure glaucoma (acute angle closure glaucoma).
